What am I doing buying Brazilian CDs just before going to Brazil?

Chico Cesar: Beleza Mano
Not something I'd normally buy, but it was highly praised in the Brazilian
press. Inventive, eclectic pop produced by Mazzola and released on his MZA
label. African and nordestino influences galore. Lots of drumming and
some accordion. Shades of Gil and Caetano in the voice -- the former in
the livelier tunes, the latter in the slower ones. Some very danceable
numbers. Long CD (19 tracks, 61:14 minutes). I'll probably be ready to
trade it when I return in January.

Cesar Camargo Mariano: Solo Brasileiro
Bought on Gerry's recommendation. Masterful jazz piano. A definite keeper
(PolyGram).

Leo Gandelman: Perolas Negras
As yet unheard. Guest appearances by Zizi Possi, Paulinho da Viola, and
Luiz Melodia (Mercury/PolyGram).

Marcos Sacramento: A Modernidade da Tradic,a~o
As yet unheard. The title was irresistible to me. Contains songs by Noel
Rosa, Assis Valente, Nelson Cavaquinho, Ataulfo Alves, Paulinho, Chico,
Caetano, and other immortals. Arranged by Mauricio Carrilho (Buda Musique).

Leila Pinheiro: Coisas do Brasil and Benc,a~o Bossa Nova
Still working on completing my collection of the Impeccable One (PolyGram).
